Tribute to Bob Buckner

Bob Buckner, beloved member and supporter of Triangle Tikkun, passed away on November 24, 2009.

Bob, along with his wife Sally, was an active member of Pullen Memorial Baptist church. They joined the local Tikkun chapter soon after its "birth" in 2003. Many of us have been inspired by the story of how, when Bob retired, he had made plans to take up a new full-time "career" -- his much-loved gardening. After September 11, 2001, however, he knew that he was called to devote himself with renewed vigor to peace and a deeper understanding between faiths. He and Sally often opened their home to Triangle Tikkun meetings in Raleigh and, after moving, in their smaller cottage in Cary, welcoming all to break bread and barriers together. Bob's presence at these gatherings and at steering committee meetings provided reflective and steady counsel, both in times of joy and times of struggle.

For those of us fortunate enough to know Bob, he was a contemplative, gentle and wise soul. Respect and love for humanity and the wider natural world seemed to flow naturally from his heart with quietness and humility, yet with the underlying power of love and integrity. He continues to be part of the living stream of peacemakers and truth-seekers that came before us and goes on after our passing, blessing us, nourishing our hearts, and offering healing, tikkun olam, for a suffering world.

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." (Matthew 5:9)

"The memory of a righteous person is a blessing." (Jewish liturgy)

"None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself" (Prophet Mohammad's tradition)

The memorial service for Bob will be held at:

 Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions

THIS HAS TO STOP.
WE PLAN TO STOP IT.
For 41 years the Israeli Occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza has brought nothing but misery, death and destruction to Palestinians and Israelis. During that time Israel has demolished over 18,000 Palestinian homes in the Occupied Territories--95% of which had nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism or security.

Support End War in Iraq

Tikkun and the Network of Spiritual Progressives sponsored an ad describing an ethical end to the war in Iraq: "... the ad was framed in religious terms to appeal to people across the political spectrum who know that the war is morally wrong, because their support for strong and clear action by their elected representatives to end the war, not just talk about ending it, is critical." The add appeared in 2008. See the ad here ▲See Rabbi Michael Lerner's video here

UN Veto Abuse

MAPAC has started a signature campaign against the abuse of veto power for blindly supporting the State of Israel in its aggression against the human beings called "Palestinians"  http://www.petitiononline.com/MAPAC06  . The veto power when originated was meant to protect the world peace, now it is used to unjustly protect a country against the will of the international community. This abuse of power is very damaging to world peace and severely damaging our image among civilized nations of the world. This veto power policy must be investigated and revised by our Congress.
